Rain delays start of Wimbledon

Fans and players were left frustrated on the opening day of Wimbledon when rain delayed the start of the championships on Monday.

The grasscourt grand slam is expected to be badly disrupted with showers forecast for much of the opening week.

Former women's champion Martina Hingis was among the players whose first round matches were delayed by at least two and a half hours as drizzle fell over southwest London.

Men's champion Roger Federer is scheduled to open Centre Court proceedings but organisers said play would not start until at least 1330 GMT (2330 AEST)
