Suspended Young Socceroos skipper Sebastian Ryall, accused of engaging in a sex act with a 13-year-old girl, told police she said she was 16.

Ryall and co-accused Alistair Lupton faced Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday for the start of their committal hearing.

Ryall, 20, of St Kilda, is accused of having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl in the early hours of January 25, 2008 near the Pittwater RSL Club.

The sexual intercourse alleged involves the girl performing oral sex on the Sydney FC defender.

Lupton, 20, of Collaroy on Sydney's northern beaches, is charged with the same offence, although the 13-year-old is a different girl.

Senior Constable Logan O'Donaghue told the hearing he attended an area near the RSL club at 2.44am on January 25 when he saw a group of young females sitting on a bench.

He said he had a conversation with Ryall and asked him what they had been doing with the girls.

Ryall replied: "We were just kissing them, that's it.

"They told us they were 16."

Const O'Donaghue said he and another officer escorted one of the girls home, where he told her parents she had been "acting inappropriately with males".

After three police officers gave evidence, the prosecution asked for an adjournment as four other witnesses were not currently available.

Magistrate John Andrews then spoke of the "enormous waste of court time, on the face of it, from what I've heard so far".

The hearing was adjourned to January 25.
